Christmas Shopping With The Kids

While it is certainly true that shopping with the kids can be difficult at times, it is also possible to have an effective, efficient and fun shopping expedition with children.  It does take a little advanced planning and cooperation on the children’s’ behalf but it can be done.  This article will cover a few of the basic tips for having a successful Christmas shopping trip with kids.  Some of these tips include ensuring the children are well rested, taking frequent breaks, incorporating activities appropriate for children into the adventure and being prepared for any situation.

Depending on the age of the children, it might be critical to ensure the children are well rested at the start of the shopping trip and that the trip does not last so long that the child will be tired out before the end of the trip.  This is very important especially in the case of young children who still take daily naps.  If you plan on Christmas shopping with a child who still takes daily naps, it might be worthwhile to plan your shopping trip after the child’s nap.  This will ensure the child has had sufficient rest and will not run out of energy or become cranky during the shopping trip as a result of exhaustion.  It might be possible to plan a shopping trip for the time before a child’s nap if the child takes the afternoon nap late in the day but in this case care should be taken to end the Christmas shopping trip well before the regularly schedule nap time.

It is also important to take frequent breaks when Christmas shopping with a child.  This is important because children categorically have short attention spans and are not likely to be able  to shop for hours on end without short diversions.  A few examples of breaks which may be appropriate may include stopping for a small snack, taking a lunch break or visiting a play area in the mall or shopping center. Each of these breaks will give the child an opportunity to enjoy a break from the monotony of shopping and will also help to distract the child if they become frustrated with the shopping.

Christmas shopping with children can also be made easier by incorporating activities appropriate for children into the schedule of the shopping trip. This may include visiting stores which may be of interest to the child. For example a trip to a toy store or a store which offers the opportunity to test out gadgets might be interesting for a child.  It might even be worthwhile to promise the child a small toy as a reward for cooperating during the trip.  This would be most effective if you schedule this trip for late in the day.  This will help to ensure the child behaves for the majority of the trip. It will also help to make the remainder of the trip easier because the child will be interested in his new toy and too distracted to complain about visiting more stores.  You could also promise to take them to see Santa if they are good.

Finally, it is important to be prepared for a variety of situations when Christmas shopping with kids. If your children are not yet potty trained, be sure to bring a supply of diapers and a change of clothes. Bringing along small toys and snacks is also helpful. The toys can be used to distract the child while standing in lines. Snacks will be helpful if the child complains of hunger or as a distraction if the child starts to become bored with the shopping trip.

It is also important for you to be well rested when taking your child with you for a shopping trip.  It is much easier to be patient with your child if you are rested and in a good mood to start with.  Above all remember, they will only be this age once.  Before you know it, your child will be all grown up.  Enjoy this time with your child.  Take it from me, you will miss it when they are older.

All About Thank You Notes

When planning any type of event or celebration, a thank you note is an element that is just as important as the invitation. There are lots of traditions surrounding the writing and sending of thank you notes. It is important toThank You Note become familiarized with these traditions to help write the perfect thank you note.

When should you send thank you notes?  Thank you notes can be sent for any occasion where guests offered gifts or services. In many cases, such as a wedding if guests brought a gift or simply attended the wedding, it is proper to send a thank you note for the guest being a part of the special event.  A celebration or special event typically takes quite a few people to keep things organized and just simply to get things done.  A thank you note is the perfect time to recognize all that friends and family have done to help make the occasion special.

What should the thank you note contain?  Thank you notes can come in a variety of styles and themes. While some thank you notes will have thank you written across the front, it is traditionally accepted to send a blank card. This leaves more room for personal messages. Thank you notes should always be hand written.  A typed or template thank you message is too impersonal and does not genuinely convey thanks to guests.  Thank you notes should coincide with the theme of the event.  A good idea is to purchase thank you notes at the same time as invitations.  This will save time in the long run and help to keep a consistent theme.

Why are thank you notes important?   Thank you notes are important to show appreciation to guests, friends, and family.  Thank you notes should be sent promptly following the event.  It is helpful for those writing the notes to do so quickly so the events are still fresh in the mind.  Thank you notes give people the opportunity to sit down and write out thoughts on paper to guests and when hand writing letters, people typically are able to express feelings that cannot be conveyed simply by a verbal thank you or a phone call.

Thank you notes are the finishing touch to any event.  Whatever the event, whatever the reason, sending thank you notes should not be pushed aside or forgotten.  It is the guests who help make the event, and it is the guests who shape the guests of honor.  Without the guests, they would not be who they are.

Save Money With Holiday Sales

Many shoppers love to take advantage of the sales that take place around the various holidays. Yet in most cases, it isChristmas Shopping the time right after the holiday when you will benefit from the most savings. One exception to this rule is the Black Friday that occurs the day after Thanksgiving.  It is considered to be the biggest shopping day of the year. You can definitely benefit from tremendous savings but you have to be willing to fight the crowds and get up very early to get the best deals.

Jewelry is commonly on sale the weeks before Valentine’s Day. This is because many men buy their wives and girlfriends beautiful bracelets, earrings, necklaces, and engagement rings during this period of time to surprise them on Valentine’s Day.  In the weeks after Valentine’s Day though you can save at least 30% on the same items. Now, I am not recommending that you delay giving your sweetheart their Valentine’s Day gift late to save money. But you can benefit from such sales by getting quality jewelry at a bargain price to give on a birthday, at Christmas, or for any other occasion.

Easter clothing isn’t the cheapest thing to purchase, and the larger your family is the more expensive it will be. Yet right after Easter all of those pretty dresses and little pant suits are very cheap. You can buy them to use for other occasions throughout the year.  They make good clothes to wear to Church and weddings without costing you a fortune.  You can also purchase them for the following year to save you plenty of money.

From the day after Thanksgiving that we talked about through Christmas Eve, shoppers are in a frenzy getting the perfect Christmas gifts for those on their list. It can be stressful and it can cost you a fortune. Many people are willing to pay more for gifts this time of year because it is a necessity and they really are more interested in getting their shopping done. That is until the credit card bills start rolling in!

To help reduce the amount of money you spend on Christmas gifts, try shopping for them all year long when you find sales. How many times have you seen something on sale and said to yourself that would be the perfect gift for a specific person? Take advantage of these opportunities and store all of the items you pick up in one location. This way you always know where to find them. Using this method you can give wonderful gifts to those on your lists without spending more than you have to.

Don’t forget to take advantage of those great sales the day after Christmas as well. This is another opportunity to pickup gift items that you don’t want to pass up. You can even buy items for yourself without feeling guilty. Those perfume gift sets will be at least half off the day after Christmas.  I buy a couple of them in my favorite fragrances so I don’t have to buy perfume throughout the year.

You can take the expense out of shopping if you take advantage of holiday sales. If you plan in advance you will find that the actual sales after the holiday has passed are much better than the sales prior to it. If you enjoy shopping as much as I do then you will be very happy to find out how much money you can save on items you will eventually need to purchase anyway.
